Praxis Education began by publishing small-run academic texts for courses no major publisher would touch — books tied to a specific programme, a specific cohort of students, a gap the mainstream market left open.

As the name suggests, the focus has always been praxis — theory and research made useful for people doing the actual work, in fields like crime prevention, engineering, childcare, youth work, community development, ecology, design, and systems management. Along the way, Praxis Education has given many early-career academics their first book, often on the exact topic their own students needed and nobody else had written.

That mission continues today through a new form: alongside publishing, Praxis Education is extending into university-level and public adult education, in the same spirit — addressing domains too often left underserved by universities themselves.
